We met at IHOP in Moreno Valley last night and I think we've found a
home. We have a room to ourselves and Susan, our waitress, was great.
Lucio didn't bring anything except his wife and kids. Well, they ate dinner. He has two daughters just like i do. Dude? You're in for some interesting times with them. He did, however, discuss what he'd read and his contributions were welcomed. Dave brought another few chapters of Poorly Remembered...etc. I absolutely love his prose because it reads so easily. It's basically a memoir, a personal history. I especially liked Euphie, his cat. But the story of the hunters that killed that boy? I guess the moral of the story is don't get between an American and his gun. Don didn't bring anything but next time for sure. I'm waiting for the next installment of his Indian couple. Gene brought in a blockbuster chapter from The Pharmacist. Personally, I think it changes Jim's relationship with Juanita and her father, his bosses, because she told him about a PI they hired to investigate his past. I won't say the changes are bad, just that I can't see how their relationships can stay the same. Very good work, Gene. Alas, we're going to miss Gene at our next meeting when he goes to Montreal to visit his brother. Then, knee surgery. Good luck, Gene. And Nancy. Wow. Her latest chapter about Cassie included a scene that will change both Cassie's and Miguel's life forever. Stan gets her a bit tipsy and then tries to have his way with her. The last scene in that chapter will make you want to read the rest because Cassie's life will never be the same. And Ethan. He brought in three chapters of Splitting Zero and I think the story is turning into an excellent mystery. Aside from the cop getting shot, is the story a straight whodunnit or something out of the Twilight Zone? Even better, his prose is getting better and that's always a plus. Ethan, dude? You've got a good tale on your hands. I just hope Edwin survives the mayhem. The cop, too.
And me? Well, chapter 14 of Money Is was a hit for most folks. Personally? I thank every one of you guys because it's always nice to hear praise, no matter how faintly it's sprinkled. Seriously, folks. Thank you.
Finally? I think my gentle insistence on reading and posting our work earlier in the week is paying off because our meeting are getting both shorter and full of more discussion of everyone's efforts. The time we've gained is being used to good effect.
